The Catholic House, Chautauqua, NY This was painted while listening to a lecture in the Ampitheatre. Sitting under the shade of a tree, I was not the only artist painting this beautiful porch. It is painted on 200# Bockingford paper, which I find to be easy to use for subjects like this.

Someone hangs this flag on the street beside the Hall of Philosophy. It is a colorful addition to all the surrounding green. As you can tell, I am a fan of the lectures and am able to accomplish two things at once. The act of painting relaxes me and the lectures are informative and sometimes very entertaining. The Reform House, A part of the United Church of Christ, this charming building sits at the southwest corner of Bestor Plaza. Image: 7 3/8" x 11"

The Hall of Philosophy (east side) I had sat on this side of the Hall of Philosophy in years past to listen to lectures, but for some reason this year, I had trouble hearing it. I did, however, meet people who happened to be from Cleveland and said they owned paintings of mine, but had never met me before. Small world! |

Lecture at The Hall of Philosophy This is the western end of the hall that is flat land, and there are benches for the overflow listeners. The park is usually packed with people because the speakers are so well chosen for the theme of the week. |
|||
The Hall of Philosophy (from the Hillside)
Listening to a lecture I when the weather was rather cool, I chose to sit in the little sunshine between clouds and paint. A delightfully inspiring afternoon... Prints: 9.25" x 12" |

The Strawberry Festival, Chautauqua, NY This festival takes place the second Sunday of July each year. Strawberry shortcake, ice cream and yummy whipped cream keep the guests happy, and a juried art festival lines the walkway on two sides of the park. Lots of people come from towns near and far for these events. This is also the day that the Washington, PA, Highschool Steel Band comes to entertain everyone in the Ampitheater. I try to make the trip each year and this year met the founder (now retired) of the Steel Pan Band, Mark Svaline, and his wife. We discussed the excitement of the pans and my having been in Trinidad for Carnival this year. Trinidad is where the Steel Pan bands originated. |
